Ohio State Boosts Defense with Commitment of 2025 Transfer Ty Howard

In one of the biggest moves to strengthen their linebacker corps, Ohio State University has secured a commitment from Duquesne University transfer Ty Howard for the 2025 season. Howard, an All-Northeast Conference performer, announced that he will join the Buckeyes on January 5, 2025, in a deal seen to further boost a rather strong roster.

Transfer Impact

The addition of Ty Howard to Ohio State is well-timed as the Buckeyes seek to stay atop college football. A multi-faceted defensive back who had an excellent season at Duquesne, Howard earned honors for his work on defense. Howard recorded 52 tackles, seven for loss, four sacks, three interceptions and added several key pass breakups and fumble recoveries in nine games for the Dukes in 2024. His performance, especially his incredible four-game run of recording takeaways, showed him as a potential game-changer on defense.

Why Ohio State?

Ohio State had an interest in Howard due to his trail of success that precedes him and the demand for experienced players within the linebacker core. Howard chose to transfer in due to various factors, including playing on one of the most storied programs in college football with a knack for producing top talent into the NFL. The family tie to Ohio State, too, as Howard is the big brother of freshman running back signee Bo Jackson, probably didn't hurt. As a result, Ohio State not only builds up its defenses but also brings the siblings closer and supportive of each other in their respective collegiate careers.

What Howard Brings to the Team

Howard is a pretty attractive addition with his athletic profile at 6-foot and 200 pounds and two years of eligibility remaining. A big-play-capable defender - as evident in his interception return for a touchdown in 2024 - Howard has a high ceiling within the Jim Knowles defensive scheme. While he will probably start off as a depth addition, his skills indicate that he could vie for a more important position, especially since Cody Simon departed.

Looking Ahead to 2025

Talents will surround the linebacker room at Ohio State, including but not limited to: Sonny Styles, Arvell Reese, Payton Pierce, and Garrett Stover. Then again, Howard has experience and success at the FCS level that might allow him to carve out some sort of role. His addition means strategic depth-the ability of Ohio State to continue performing at a high level in injury or when somebody is underperforming.

With this transfer, Ohio State has continued to utilize the transfer portal as efficiently as in the case of earlier transfers like Will Howard from Kansas State, who has already been declared the starting quarterback for the 2024 season. This trend underlines the Buckeyes' commitment to adapting and enhancing their roster through both high school recruitment and the transfer portal.

Conclusion

Ty Howard's commitment to Ohio State for the 2025 season is a lot more than a transfer but an addition to strengthen up the Buckeyes' defense. Teaming up with his brother and such a talented class of linebackers, Ohio State fans and coaches will be anxious to see how the skills will truly translate into a competitive Big Ten Conference. His storyline from Duquesne to Ohio State will be one to keep an eye on, as he tries to leave his stamp on one of the most historic college football programs.

Cade Stover Loses His Black Stripe

People always chose different sportsmen as their ideal personality. That individual can either be footballer, cricketer, badminton player, rugby football player, or any other sports. Cade Stover is a player recently playing from Ohio State Buckeyes. He joined this club a few months back as an outside linebacker (OLB) that is an important position to cover. Stover has a height of 6 feet and 5 inches with 235 lbs. weight. He is no doubt one of the best players in this sport due to physique and technique. Let’s have a look at the more details about Cade Stover.

Attributes of Cade Stover

CadeStover is a 4-star player with extreme athleticism and agility to take over his opponents. The stats clearly show his recent performances as he has 178 tackles in this last season. Furthermore, Stover rushed for 1497 yards and he has 2 forced fumbles under his badge as well. He is not only a consistent performer, but the head coach of Ohio State said that “He is the game-changer irrespective of the possession”. He also won a title of Mr. Football by Ohio State in 2018.

Playing Positions

Stover looks like a quarterback player with his height and weight but that’s not true at all. During his junior year, he used to play as a center. He completed 43 passes out of 104 attempts however it wasn’t an ideal position for him. He faced a minor injury in the interim of 2017 season, but he recovered soon. After that, he played on his recent position of an outside linebacker (OLB).

Recent Events

Losing the Black Stripe

Stover has become 6th player (16th player overall) from the recruiting class of 2019 who is now officially a Buckeye. Stover was rated as No.7 outside linebacker (OLB) and No.114 overall player in the class. He lost his black stripe on 13 August 2019 with recorded 178 tackles out of which 92 are solo tackles. Moreover, he is the fifth defensive player who has won the Mr. Ohio Footballaward in 2018. Due to these reasons and improved position, the administration is looking forward to an overwhelming 2019 season.

Expected Position and Future Opportunity

The lineup of linebacker for Buckeyes is quite complex as they have eight returning players. Therefore, future opportunity and survival as a linebacker are difficult for three new linebackers including Stover. He is an exceptional player with explicit skill-set who can perform in any situation and he can make his mark quickly. If he joins as a linebacker, there will be two senior LB in front of him with a ton of experience and enhanced skills.

Another problem for Stover is that Ohio State has recruited three linebackers in the last three years of classes. He won’t be getting enough chance as permanent linebacker until he is a senior player with extended expertise. However, the best trait of Stover is his versatility as he can play any of the LB position. It is not essential for him to join as No.1 central linebacker to have a look at the field. He just wants to be on the field among three best linebackers. If he is given consistent chances, he will eventually win the hearts of coaches soon and might replace a senior player.

2014 Ohio State Football Pro Day: A Day Of Lessons

The past Buckeyes linebacker, Etiene Sabino, and 16 other former Buckeyes graced a training session on Friday during the Annual Ohio State Football Pro Day.

The primary order of business was a bunch of four players with divergent talents and the ability to be drawn in the first round pick. The players included running back Carlos Hyde, linebacker Ryan Shazier, cornerback Bradley Roby and Jack Mewhort, an offensive lineman.

What could have been a successful workout session turned out to be a drab anticlimax as all of the 17 former Buckeyes we unable to complete the arduous drilling practice session due to injury or fatigue.

However, all was not lost during the Annual Ohio State Football Pro Day. The fans got what they deserved as they were able to witness the former Buckeyes doing what they used to do so well. Plus, various lessons were harvested which will become cemented when applied to future fantasy football leagues.
Ryan is outlandish

Shazier picked up a hamstring injury before the NFL Scouting combine. He was therefore unable to run the 40-yard sprint he was guilty of failing to complete on Friday due to a similar hamstring problem.

Nonetheless, he staged some mad results

Shazier clocked an unofficial 4.36 seconds. Even though this appears quick it could get worse the moment it becomes official and hits the airwaves. It is the best time for linebackers and the 4th best when all the player's speeds are analysed together.

When in Indianapolis, Ryan Shazier executed the highest ever vertical jump, a spine chilling 42 inches. He is evidently fiery. His thunderbolt speed, classy tactics and excellent technique were all displayed on Friday and they are on record.

Shazier will be absent in the second round.

Mewhort's diversity was on show in Columbus as he played left tackle for the majority of the time and also started at right and left guard is some matches.

In the NFL he however preferred to remain at tackle. With a weight of 315lbs and a height of 6.6 inches he will surely be able to get a stint or two.

It will be an awesome idea for Mewhort to try out different positions as there are no guarantees in the NFL. Most NFL teams have a lot of versatility in their ranks and players who can play different positions.

Any player who harbors hopes of being picked for the first team must be willing and able to play in different roles.

Besides, being drafted is what all players dream of.

Look forward to seeing Kenny Guiton training for the Patriots.

The good news for Kenny Guiton is that the New England Patriots have a gnac for mounting the Big 10 quarterbacks. Remember, this is the same team that helped Tom Brady (Michigan) to scale the heights of success and earn a place in the Hall of Fame.
