Brutusreport Blogspot Sports Carnival - February 25, 2010

Welcome to the February 25, 2010 edition of Brutusreport Blogspot Sports Carnival. This time around we have some 15 or so really good articles and one very bad one. Steve Patterson starts us off with OSU Buckeyes in the NFL Combine which just opened up today. Tim Tebow won't throw so we can all breath easy. Steve also has a story on Adam Griffin the son of Buckeye great Archie Griffin who was given a scholarship after the team missed out on 5 top 100 players at the end of the recruiting process. Josh tries to convince us that Lane Kiffin will not fail although that is all he has ever done. And finally Neven Szary believes in Team Canada even after the US socked them in the groin in front of a packed home ice. That ends my sarcastic take on this weeks articles. Come back next time when I will be serious about sports and the writers that write about them. Bookmark and Share if you have nothing else to do with the rest of the night.

Lisa Taylor presents 10 Youngest College Graduates in U.S. History (and Where They Are Today) posted at Online Degree.

Baseball

Eric Gargiulo presents Will Work For Food And Millions! Baseballs Remaining Free Agents posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "RF Jermaine Dye: 2009, White Sox, .251 average, 27 home runs, 81 R.B.I. 36 years old Dye showed he still has some pop left in his bat, and can prove to be a good bat off the bench or play in a platoon situation. However, he still is seeking big money and a chance to play every day. At 36 his fielding skills are diminished, and he lacks speed. Still the best of the available free agents as far as power. A team in need of a DH could tap Dye by the end of spring."

Basketball

Eric Gargiulo presents College Basketball Betting ? Calipari, Pearl renew hostilities in Lexington posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Anyone who follows sportsbook odds (betphoenix reviews) has had this Saturday circled on the calendar for a long time. Football

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: Are we writing off Peyton Manning? posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Moments after the Super Bowl, I tuned into the great four letter network located in Connecticut. The network had a good NFL analyst on who at one time (I can’t believe I’m going to write this) lead his team to a Super Bowl Championship. His name is Trent Dilfer. The story he brought up that the media would run with the next day on the Indianapolis Colts is something weeks prior we would never even consider. He asked: “Could Peyton Manning win the big one again?”"

Steve Patterson presents Ohio State Buckeyes at The NFL Combine posted at BrutusReport, saying, "Thaddeus Gibson is one of the standouts that is expected to be drafted in the first round."

Steve Patterson presents Adam Griffin Gets Late Ohio State Offer posted at eScoutRoom, saying, "He is reportedly quite excited to be on scholarship with OSU this coming fall."

Josh presents Things Aren’t Always as They Seem – Lane Kiffin Can’t Fail. « Thatonesportsguy's Blog posted at ThatOneSportsGuy, saying, "Read it."

Hockey

Eric Gargiulo presents USA Men?s Hockey Over Comes Late Run posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "USA defeated Switzerland in the first game of the Olympics for both Men’s teams by a score of 3-1. Switzerland came out hitting fast and furious in the beginning of the game, which to an extent really slowed down the speedy Team USA. USA had no answer for the onslaught of hard hits by Switzerland, but would slowly turn it around by the middle stages of the first period. With just over a minute remaining in the first period, Bobby Ryan scored on Anaheim teammate Jonas Hiller. David Backes would later score a beautiful goal in the 2nd period, followed by Ryan Malone. Team USA showed up in the 2nd period, but the 3rd period was another story once again."

Eric Gargiulo presents The Best MMA Staredowns ? Video posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "As memorable as a great UFC knockout can be, an intense pre-fight staredown can be epic. MMA fighters like Wanderlei Silva, Rampage Jackson, Diego Sanchez, and Clay Guida have perfected the art of the pre-fight MMA staredown. Check out this great video and picture collection of some of the greatest MMA staredowns of all time. The footage comes from Pride Fighting Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship."

Sure, he’s popular but is popularity the only factor that determines “legendary” status?"

Cheryl Ragsdale presents How boxing and martial arts landed me on the cover of “50 Athletes Over 50 Teach Us to Live a Strong, Healthy Life” posted at That Girl is Funny, saying, "Krizia from eatsmartagesmart interviewed me about my love for the sport of boxing. Eric Gargiulo presents NBA Betting – Celtics vs. Hornets Preview posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The Boston Celtics are supposed to be one of the elite teams in the NBA but recently, there have been some fractures in the armor. The Boston Celtics have been struggling lately, splitting their last 10 games with five wins and five losses."

Football

Eric Gargiulo presents Pro Bowl Betting – Pro Bowl still worth watching posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Super Bowl betting is on the minds of many in the online betting industry right now, but the NFL is trying to drum up interest in the Pro Bowl by moving it from Hawaii to Miami, the site of the Super Bowl, and a week before the big game. There are a number of injuries to both rosters, but here are four players to keep an eye on this Sunday."

FavreDollarFootlongs presents Do Players Have to Love the Game? posted at Favre Dollar Footlongs.

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: Tim Tebow’s near death experience posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Okay so before I get to the whole Tim Tebow's mom's Super Bowl Commercial thing I've just have to know. The Olympic figure skater John Weir, the one in trouble because his outfit may have featured real fur, is he the guy that played the homosexual in Wedding Crashers that sodomized Vince Vaughn?"

Eric Gargiulo presents A Look At The 10 Best NFL Super Bowls posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Super Bowl XXXIX, February 6th, 2005, Alltel Stadium Jacksonville, Florida – New England Patriots 24, Philadelphia Eagles 21 - After three straight spoiled attempts in NFC Championship games, Andy Reid finally got his team to the big game where they would face the defending champs from New England. Despite striking first the Eagles could not contain Tom Brady and game MVP Deion Branch enough to pull a win out. The Pats defense collected 4 Eagles turnovers, and spoiled the return of Terrell Owens, who came back from an ankle injury to collect 9 catches for 122 yards. Donovan McNabb did manage 357 yards and 3 TD’s for the Eagles, but will more be remembered for an alleged “vomiting” incident during the 4th quarter. Brady finished with 236 yards and 2 TDs, and Branch had 11 catches for 133 yards. The Eagles managed to score with 3 minutes left, then stopped the Pats on the next series, but could only muster 3 plays after that from their own 4 yard line."

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: So long Kurt Who posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Kurt Warner, age 38, is calling it quits. In addition to being a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, he was also the rarest of rare things in this age of all encompassing media: Kurt was a guy who TRULY took a professional sports league by storm. Kurt didn’t play his high school ball on ESPN; he didn’t come to the league with a 100 million dollar endorsement deal in tow. Not only was Kurt not drafted but he wasn’t even invited to the combine!"

Steve Patterson presents Drew Basil, Jumping into the Rotation this Spring posted at BrutusReport, saying, "Basil also liked the fan support and what he saw around the OSU campus when he was visiting."

Eric Gargiulo presents Super Bowl XLIV Preview and Prediction posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "For one week of the year, sports fans that live and die every week with the NFL come together with those that haven’t watched a snap of football since last year. Whether you are watching due to Super Bowl betting, bonding with your significant other, looking for a good party, or actually care about the game, chances are good you will be watching Super Bowl XLIV. For fans of the game like myself, I couldn’t be anymore excited about the possibilities of this year’s matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints."

Madeleine Begun Kane presents Super Bowl Sunday Blues posted at Mad Kane's Humor Blog.

hall monitor presents Student sent home from school for wearing Colts jersey posted at DetentionSlip.org, saying, "No Colts fans allowed in Louisiana!"

Neven Szary presents The Media Predicts The Game posted at Eastern Invasion, saying, "How the media correctly picks the winners of the biggest football games."

Eric Gargiulo presents McNabb Thinks Vick Deserves To Start – Shocking! posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "It was nice to see Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb keeping himself busy during Super Bowl week. McNabb took time away from talking about his own contractual status to talk about fellow Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick. Donovan McNabb said in an ESPN interview that he feels Michael Vick deserves a chance to be a starter. I cannot believe that McNabb would even dream of wanting Vick to play on another team next season. Shocking isn’t it?"

Eric Gargiulo presents Very Early Super Bowl XLV Odds posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The confetti is still on the ground in Miami from the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIV win, yet the Vegas oddsmakers are already looking towards next year. The very early odds are out for Super Bowl XLV. Even with a win over the Colts, the Saints are not favored to repeat. In a sign of outright disrespect, the Indianapolis Colts and a team that didn’t even get out of the Wild Card round have better odds to win Super Bowl XLV than the Who Dat Nation."

Hockey

Eric Gargiulo presents NHL Betting – Can changes help in Maple Leaf-land? posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "While checking out the Super Bowl XLIV odds, you may have heard about a busy trade weekend in the NHL revolving around Toronto. Eric Gargiulo presents Dallas Stars kick off road swing in the Windy City posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Chicago is one of the top Stanley Cup picks this year, but they’ve struggled at home lately. The Blackhawks will welcome their old rivals from Dallas to town on Friday, and the Stars will begin a three-game road trip in Chicago. When the Stars were in Minnesota, this was an old-time hockey rivalry, and things could get exciting as both are jockeying for positions at opposite ends of the playoff spectrum."

Other

Eric Gargiulo presents Strikeforce: Miami – Preview and Predictions posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Miami marks the first Strikeforce show since Scott Smith pulled yet another come-from-behind victory out of his ass against Cung Le last month at Evolution. Divinelysmile presents Top 10 Majors That are Going Extinct posted at Online Degree Programs.org: Top Online Degrees.

Eric Gargiulo presents A Chance To Save Heavyweight Boxing posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Meet “Fast” Eddie Chambers, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and boxing out of the once legendary boxing city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He will be fighting IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champ, and Russian product Wladimir Klitschko this March in an attempt to bring some glory back to the U.S.A. heavyweight boxing scene. The Klitshckos (brothers Wladimir and Vitali) own 2 of the 3 major boxing committees championships, and have for some years now."

Divinelysmile presents Top 10 Cheating Scandals in College History posted at Online Degree Programs.org: Top Online Degrees.

Eric Gargiulo presents UFC 109 Relentless: Preview and Predictions posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Saturday’s UFC 109 card is suffered from the afterbirth of The Fall Curse of 09, with the initial match up of Lil Nog vs. Brandon Vera being scrapped due to Nog’s ankle injury and Josh Koscheck withdrawing from his rematch with Paulo Thiago due to his own injury, so teammate Mike Swick has stepped in for Koscheck. Interestingly enough, the UFC main event featuring Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman (being jokingly referred to as “The Battle of the Old Geezers”) has made it this far without injuries. Their combined age is 91. Okay I promise no more jokes about their age since it’s been beaten like a dead horse around the blogosphere. With that said, let’s get down to it:"

Cheryl Ragsdale presents How to Avoid the Greeting Card Version of Valentine's Day | eHow.com posted at FaithAllen, saying, "What?! Valentine's Day is a sport. People get all twisted up over Valentine's Day. Let's keep it simple. Let me help you get through it like the man-stud you are. Follow these steps to help you give up your resistance to February 14th."

Eric Gargiulo presents Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey Set For March posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Manny Pacquiao recently failed to negotiate a fight against the former Pound for Pound king Floyd Mayweather because of the random blood testing that the Mayweather camp wanted both fighters to take. Pacquiao was keen to accept the said test but should not be 12 days before the fight because it might weaken him, and Mayweather’s Camp didn’t accept those excuses, thus it paves way to Joshua Clottey."

Just don't get caught in a rear naked choke while dating one of these woman. Finally Aaliyah Williams has 11 Ways You Can Go to Sports Events for Free. Eric Gargiulo presents Sports Betting Tips ? Fade the Kentucky Wildcats…Sort Of posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "While most people are focused on the Super Bowl odds while the NFL betting season winds down, most people haven't noticed what the Kentucky Wildcats have been able to accomplish with new head coach John Calipari."
Eric Gargiulo presents NBA Betting – Wednesday Night Parlay posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Sacramento Kings at Atlanta Hawks - The Kings recently got SG Kevin Martin back from injury. They are trying to play rookie sensation Tyreke Evans and Martin at the same time, although Evans appears to be more of a 2 guard himself rather than a 1. They have not meshed yet and until they do, if they do, I will bet against them. The Sac Kings are 3-16 on the road and have no way to matchup with Josh Smith, Marvin Williams and big Al Horford. I expect a lot of turnovers by the Kings and a blowout along the lines of 92-71. I would take the Hawks and the under in this game regardless of what it is."
Eric Gargiulo presents When The Trade Deadline Hits Your Eye…That’s Amare posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Steve Kerr has said that the Phoenix Suns are increasing their efforts to trade away Amare Stoudemire in exchange for some young talent and some good role players. Also in Kerr’s thought process is freeing up the cap space brought on by Stoudemire, who is making $16.3 million this season and is scheduled to make $17.7 million next season. According to sources, teams on all levels have shown interest, from bottom dwellers to playoff teams to championship contenders."

Football

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: You pulled a fast one Lane Kiffin! posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "When news broke on Tuesday night that Lane Kiffin would be leaving the University of Tennessee for the University of Southern California to become the new head coach there, only one thing ran through my head right away, wow Al Davis was right. This was the same Lane Kiffin that 14 months ago was passing his kool-aid to everyone at the University of Tennessee that he was going to turn the program around and more importantly beat the might Florida Gators. Now 14 months he, as Dennis Green would probably say, “is what we thought he was.”"
Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Divisional Playoffs Preview and Picks posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The New Orleans Saints host the Arizona Cardinals this weekend in what looks to be the most entertaining game of the post season. These are two teams that can put up 21 points each without even blinking. Kurt Warner and the Cardinals’ offense looked unbeatable last week. As great as his performance was last week, Warner has been money in the playoffs for most of his career. Kurt Warner is 9-3 in the post season with three Super Bowl appearances. The pressure of going into a hostile situation is nothing new for this future Hall of Fame quarterback."
Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Divisional Playoffs Recap and Thoughts posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "We are two rounds and eight games down in the NFL playoffs. Once again the NFL saved a weekend of lackluster games with a fantastic Sunday finale. Who would have thought that the San Diego Chargers and the New York Jets would provide the most intrigue on a weekend that featured the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, and Indianapolis Colts?"
Eric Gargiulo presents Can the Jets be Super Bowl bound? posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The New York Jets have become everyone’s favorite Cinderella story to the NFL’s worst nightmare. They have put the remaining three other teams on notice as they will be entering the AFC Championship game this Sunday against the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts. It’s the playoffs and anything can truly happen now. The New York Jets are becoming America’s favorite underdog as they continue to strike fear in their opponents’ game after game."
Eric Gargiulo presents Is The Cleveland Browns Future In The Eagles’ Hands? posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "As I always say sports fans, be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. The rumor mill is swirling with scenarios in Cleveland, and alot of it is focused on what the Eagles have at QB. As you know, Former Eagles GM Tom Heckert is now holding that position with the Browns, and according to rumors he and new "Prez" Mike Holmgren are looking for a radical change."
Chris presents Get off the Carousel posted at FootballBlitz.
Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Conference Championship Games Recap posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Finally, an entire weekend of games in the NFL postseason lived up to expectations. For at least three quarters, the AFC championship game turned out to be one of the most exciting games in NFL conference championship history. Not even four quarters could decide the NFC Super Bowl representative. For the first time in sixteen years, two number NFL one seeds will play in each other in what will likely be the most hyped game in Super Bowl history."
Jake presents Why Professional Sports are Destroying Your Life posted at Your Best Weekend, saying, "Join me in boycotting the Superbowl!"
Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: Ah, there he is! posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "I like everyone else was left in disbelief Sunday night as the Minnesota Vikings were making one last drive down the field in the Superdome. With a little over two minutes to go Brett Favre was driving down the field setting the Minnesota Vikings up for there very first appearance in the Super Bowl. This is one of the reasons why Brett Favre went to Minnesota. To beat the Green Bay Packers and to win a Super Bowl in Minnesota, to prove everyone wrong that this 40 year old Quarterback that retired and unretired multiple times, could still do it."
FavreDollarFootlongs presents The Adolescence of a Sports Fan posted at Favre Dollar Footlongs, saying, "The column discusses how we change as sports fans from when we used to just enjoy watching any sports as a kid into our complete fanatic state as adults."
Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: NFL Championship Weekend Thoughts posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Did Boomer Esiason die? I was watching him on the air yesterday and wondering who was the corpse, him or the person applying his makeup. He looks like weekend at Boomer's. Dude we know Carton is grating as hell but geez, Boom. You look like an old southwest ad "want to get away""

Hockey

Eric Gargiulo presents NHL Betting – Stanley Cup hopefuls meet in Washington posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Detroit Red Wings vs Washington Capitals betting – Tuesday, January 19, 7:00 PM ET. The Red Wings have lost three of their last four, one of which was a 6-0 humiliation at the hands of the Islanders in New York, and then two shootout losses to Dallas and Chicago. Jimmy Howard is still getting used to being a No.1 goaltender in the NHL, especially on a team with such high expectations to NHL betting players, but the Red Wings have been inconsistent in front of him. Not that players like Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Nicklas Lidstrom, have been terrible, but they haven’t dominated as they have in recent years."
Eric Gargiulo presents NHL Tuesday Preview: Devils vs. Senators posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "While most of the betting focus being on Super Bowl odds and NFL picks after Championship Weekend, many are overlooking key matchups in the NHL. The NHL season has just past its mid-point and the games now have more serious implications in the standings and some preview possible playoff matchups.
This Tuesday night one such matchup is taking place as Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils travel up to Ottawa to take on the surging Senators."

Cheryl Ragsdale presents Dana White Predicts Growth in Female Fan Base “Girls Who Watch UFC are Hot…” - The Sports Chat Place posted at Sports Chat Place, saying, "To set the record straight, I would like to introduce you to female fans who love MMA – what we look like and what we sound like. Because it’s so unusual, why don’t we just let a woman explain her fascination with mixed martial arts. I went on line and googled female UFC fans and the only thing that popped up that looked interesting was UFC Fighter, Frank Mir’s website Frank gets it. Eric Gargiulo presents Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione Rumored For UFC 113 posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "UFC will move forward with one of its biggest ratings draws of 2009, Kimbo Slice. After winning his first UFC fight at the TUF Finale, Kimbo Slice is now rumored to face another fighter from The Ultimate Fighter 10. Conflicting reports indicate that Kimbo Slice’s next opponent will be the “brain rattled” former NFL player, Matt Mitrione at UFC 113."
Aaliyah Williams presents 11 Ways You Can Go to Sports Events for Free posted at Masters in Sports Management, saying, "You don’t have to climb a tree and risk a limb to watch sporting action for free, if you know where to look you can get front-row seats to almost any game."
Eric Gargiulo presents Brock Lesnar Is Healthy And Will Fight posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The Brock Lesnar mystery is closer to being solved today. Lesnar and UFC president Dana White appeared this afternoon on ESPN SportsCenter. Lesnar claimed that he is cured of diverticulitis and will fight again. Dana White confirmed that Lesnar is still the UFC heavyweight champion and named four potential opponents for Lesnar’s return. Baseball

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse: The Beltre-ville Horror posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "My beloved Boston Red Sox came to terms with Adrian Beltre on a 1 year/$9 million deal, with a player option for 2011 for $5 million. While that news is not surprising (or important enough to break through as one of the top stories on ESPN.com’s front page…), it is significant to Red Sox fans, Yankees fans, Mike Lowell fans, and fans who think that money is wasted in Major League Baseball."

Eric Gargiulo presents The Ultimate ?Unit? Of Measurement ? Looking At Randy Johnson posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "As the 2009 MLB season drew to a close, many were already wondering about big name free agents, and wondering about certain plyaers that may or may not be able to help their teams in 2010. A name that many had to consider, much the way they had for the last 20 years, was the ageless wonder, 6 foot 10 inch Randy Johnson. Yes he is 46 years old, but he still had that same mound presence last year as a member of the San Francisco Giants. The only problem here is that Johnson has decided to hang it up, and end a brilliant but often misunderstood career."

Football

Eric Gargiulo presents The Most Memorable NFL Game Of The Decade posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Over the course of a decade, there have been many memorable and great NFL games. Super Bowls, playoff upsets, and even some historic regular season meetings that were about more than a win or a loss. In looking back at the decade I can only think of one NFL game that meant more to the decade than any other. It wasn’t a Super Bowl, nor was it even a conference playoff game. When you think of all of the NFL games played in the last ten years, I can’t think of a game with more ramifications and controversy over the decade than the infamous “Tuck Rule Game.”"

Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Week 17 Preview and Picks posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The biggest game of the week takes place Sunday afternoon in Dallas, Texas. The new Texas Stadium will host the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles playing for the NFC East title. Both teams have already clinched playoff spots, but the post season road for each team would be much easier with a win. For the Cowboys, they will be guaranteed a home game. For the Eagles, they can clinch the overall second spot and would only play one game on the road in New Orleans if the Saints win their divisional game. Needless to say, both teams have plenty to play for and nobody will be sitting starters in Texas."

Steve Patterson presents Wisconsin Puts the Hurt on Miami to Score for the Big Ten posted at BrutusReport, saying, "The Badgers finished the year with 10 wins after a disappointing season last year."

Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Wild Card Preview and Picks posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Let’s start out with the game that hits closest to my heart between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. After being declared the hottest team in the NFC, the Eagles reminded fans like me why we can’t trust them in certain situations. Rivalry game, on the road, second seed on the line, and the Eagles decided to take their Bye Week early. The Dallas Cowboys spanked the birds at home and locked up the NFC East, and a home game this weekend with last week’s drubbing."

Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Head Coaching Cash For Clunkers posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Pete Carroll being hired by the Seattle Seahawks with a generous amount of personnel control is yet another example of a team enamored with name over facts. The next time an NFL head coach wants a raise he is better off tanking a season, getting fired, and getting rehired somewhere else."

Eric Gargiulo presents The Annual Philadelphia Eagles Postmortem Blog posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Here we go again. It looks like it is time for the annual Philadelphia Eagles postmortem blog. For the fourth straight year I sit here in disgust and disappointment as a birds fan. The obvious two names up for discussion here are the head coach and the quarterback. Are we better off without one, the other or both? Unfortunately while a valid question it is one without much merit after the coach’s latest contract extension."

It was also recently announced that Forsberg will be added to Swedens olympic team that will be on display in Vancouver this February. Forsberg has collected two gold medals with the team and is considered the team’s unsung leader. I post a question to all of you though; Are the Olympic games one last go around for Swedens biggest NHL hero, or is it an NHL showcase for teams to see if he still has anything left in the tank, and is worth signing to a contract for a potential playoff team?"

The deal that was on the table would, most likely, not only shatter pay-per-view records and generate a possible $200 million in revenue, but net each fighter in the neighborhood of $40 million each. Two articles from Eric Gargiulo include a sports fan's letter to Santa and the Fantasy Football Sharky Awards. Plus Cheryl Ragsdale has a set of nice stories. They have tied an NBA record with six straight losses of four points or less. The Wizards have had some very tough losses over the last week and their record is now 7-16 overall. As they say, close does not count."

Football

Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Week 15 Preview and Picks posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The NFC’s undefeated darlings, the New Orleans Saints also play in a featured game this week. The Saints play a struggling Dallas Cowboys at home on Saturday night. NFL fans started counting this one down three weeks ago and a week later they stopped. Talk about two teams going in entirely two different directions. The Dallas Cowboys continue to choke in December and are on the verge of seeing their playoff hopes completely slip away barring a miracle over the next few weeks."

Eric Gargiulo presents A Favre From Surprising Story posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "I knew we couldn’t get through an NFL regular season without some Brett Favre controversy. Favre shut a lot of doubters like me up earlier this season when he had the Minnesota Vikings rolling through the regular season and crushing opponents. Favre looked great, the team looked great, and even Brad Childress’ questionable coaching couldn’t stop this NFC North division machine…until now. A tense exchange Sunday night between Favre and Chilly could be two minutes of Brad Childress’ life that could change his career forever."
Eric Gargiulo presents First Annual Fantasy Football Sharky Awards posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Chris Johnson, Running Back, Tennessee Titans - 1730 rush yards,11 tds, 44 receptions, 446 yards, 2 tds. Johnson is the new coming of L.T. for all of you who can remember back that far (some 2 years!). Johnson has had 200 yard games, killed it from scrimmage all year."
Eric Gargiulo presents NFL Week 16 Preview and Picks posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The NFL opens up the week with a great prime time special on Christmas night. The San Diego Chargers look for 10 straight as they travel to Tennessee to play the Titans. Vince Young and the Titans are still alive for a playoff spot. After starting off the season winless in six and being blown out in embarrassing fashion by the New England Patriots, a playoff spot for the Titans would truly be a Christmas miracle."
Eric Gargiulo presents Sick Of Shanahan posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "This just in, Mike Shanahan is the greatest coach to ever coach an NFL team. Well, if you watched the NFL Network or ESPN or read Sports Illustrated that is what you would think. I haven't seen this much hype for an unemployed NFL head coach since Jimmy Johnson's free agent years between Dallas and Miami. I just have to ask if we are all talking about the same Mike Shanahan here because quite honestly I just don't get it."

Basketball

Eric Gargiulo presents NBA Betting ? Celtics, Spurs clash in battle of streaking teams posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The Celtics (14-4) are coming off a 108-90 thumping of Charlotte on the road, holding the Bobcats to 40.5% from the floor, and 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. Ray Allen was on fire, scoring 27 points on 6-of-9 shooting (including 5-of-6 from three-point range), and Kendrick Perkins even threw in a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. The Celtics are now 8-2 when they score 100 points or more, and even though their NBA betting odds depend on their defense, Boston is showing that they can fill the basket as well."

Eric Gargiulo presents Fantasy Football Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Quinton Ganther, Washington Redskins - I picked up Ganther last week but didn't trust him to start. I got burnt as Ganther had 21 points last week and was the first Redskin running back to start and get goal line carries in a long time. I learned my lesson, and yet he is still available in most leagues off of the waiver/free agent wire. Ganther has a fantastic matchup this Sunday against the New York Giants. The Philadelphia Eagles ran all over the Giants Sunday night. As a matter of a fact, everyone has run on the Giants this season. I love his matchup, and he is one of the few backs in the entire league to get the ball as both a feature and red zone back."

Steve Patterson presents What did we learn from week 14 in the NFL? posted at FryingPan Sports, saying, "The Cowboys took a major hit with their loss to the Chargers. With the wins over the Giants the Birds took control of their division."

In what ruined a great show, was the announcing team of HBO, this time it was the more annoying presence of Max Kellerman that was ranting about his "thoughts" that he states as fact. First, Chris Arreola was scheduled to fight club level Brian Minto in a comeback for Arreola, after losing to Vitali Klitschko. UFC 107 lived up the hype with decisive finishes, great fights, lots of blood, and dominant performances. BJ Penn and Frank Mir both looked tremendous in their wins at UFC 107. Unlike recent UFC shows, there were no questionable decisions…just questionable futures."

Brutusreport Blogspot Sports Carnival - December 3, 2009

Welcome to the December 3, 2009 edition of Brutusreport Blogspot Sports Carnival. This time around we have 19 different article on a wide range of topics including Cheryl Ragsdale on female bodybuilding and why it's a great sport. Finally SS has some skiing information and how to fuel your body for your next run. Bookmark the carnival and spread the word until next time.

Basketball

Eric Gargiulo presents NBA Betting - Free-scoring Lakers host stingy Bulls | CamelClutchBlog.com posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "The Bulls have won two in a row, although that probably won’t be enough to make them NBA betting favorites on the West Coast. They’re having some troubles scoring with only one 100-point game so far this year, but their defense is stellar as the Bulls are sixth in points allowed. The Bulls were hurt by an early-season injury to Derrick Rose, who is the key to their NBA betting odds, but John Salmons and Taj Gibson have been coming on as of late as well. Rose averaged 25.0 points in two games against the Lakers last year."

Football

Eric Gargiulo presents Inside The Wheelhouse – NFL Week 11 Preview & Picks | CamelClutchBlog.com posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Starting off with a very important game in the NFC between two struggling teams that had high hopes going into the 2009 season. Steve Patterson presents Happy Thanksgiving? The NFL Provides the Turkeys posted at FryingPan Sports, saying, "Unless he continues to improve his passing, defenses will adjust to the Young led O and stop this version of the team as well."

Eric Gargiulo presents Beat The Shark Wrap Up Plus Other Tidbits From NFL Week 12 posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "Well despite the terrific efforts of last weeks contestant, Miss Candice Albanese, “The Shark” was back in the winners circle, and of course back to brag about it. With a big 3-1 record on the week, thanks to winning picks the Buccaneers, Seahawks and Titans, “The Shark” was able to lift the picks record to 21-18-1 and take a 6-5 lead over the ladies. Candice did a pretty good job as well, going 2-2 as she had winners with the Colts and the Vikings, but fell with the Dolphins losing to the Bills and the Eagles were unable to cover against the Redskins. So now with that the women are back to .500 with a record of 20-20. Oh so maybe it is time for the tie break against myself and the Albanese girls. Sister Karyn got me in week 3, and I took down Candice in week 12. Hmmm, perhaps a me vs. both in a week or 2? Anyway it goes to show once again that beauty does not always beat the beast! Nice efforts Candice, but you’ve been Shark Bit!"

Eric Gargiulo presents Is Bute Superior to the Super Six? | CamelClutchBlog.com posted at CamelClutchBlog.com, saying, "If the Six Man tournament in the Super Middleweight Division is not enough to shake it up, how about a rematch, and we all wanted one, because the first was so controversial, between undefeated IBF champ Lucian Bute and Librado Andrade. They showed what happened in their first fight. Max Kellerman said Bute got knocked out twice and won the fight, and it was the worst kind of hometown refereeing he has ever seen. It’s true, but besides Emanuel Augustus getting robbed and jobbed in Burton’s hometown on ESPN, this fight was for a title on a pay network. They had a clock and showed that instead of a ten count Bute got a 21 count. Kellerman also said that Andrade should be the champion. So there is a compelling match up between the “other” super middleweight champion. In the tournament, now, we have undefeated Andre Ward with the WBA title, and undefeated Carl Froch with the WBC title. Well here was undefeated IBF champ Bute trying to state his claim that he is the best."

Dick Lafrance presents Some Athlete Websites posted at My Thoughts on the World of Sports, saying, "'m going to take a bit of a break from my normal blog posting and present some Websites from some sports figures."
